The CLAC (anti-capitalist convergence) was formed in Montreal in the spring of 2000 to mobilize against the FTAA (Free Trade Area of the Americas) and the Summit of the Americas scheduled to take place in Quebec city in April 2001. The following year the CLAC organized with the Take the Capital campaign against the G8 coming to Ottawa in June 2002. Then in the summer of 2002, after a restructuring process, different struggle committees were formed to focus on more specific issues. CLAC-logement was formed at this time.

CLAC-logement is a non-hierarchal direct-action housing-rights and anti-poverty organization. We mount campaigns and support existing struggles against poverty, gentrification and homelessness. We fight for the rights of tenants, residents and squatters. We are interested in doing direct-action advocacy for individuals against landlords, bosses and against the social service system which currently provides little/no/insufficient housing options. We are continuing our campaign against the ongoing gentrification and condo developments in the southwest neighbourhoods of Montreal. We are also in the midst of a campaign, carried out with the Comité des sans emploi, against the anti-social agenda of Jean Charest’s re-engineering of the state.
