Take the fight against gentrification to Burrough Council!

The Quai des Eclusiers condo development project is on the South-West Burrough Council's agenda on Tuesday, December 3rd.

Join CLAC Logement and residents of the South-West to make sure that Burrough Councillors Montpetit, Bousquet and Hamel have got the message loud and clear: They'd better not give Developpement des Eclusiers a construction permit, 'cause residents of the South-West won't tolerate any more condos in our neighborhoods...

The Quai des Eclusiers project will develop 450 units of luxury lofts and condos. Being sold at up to $400,000, in a neighborhood where 75% of the residents are tenants and those have an average income of $19,000 a year, it is clear that the condos aren't being snapped up by poor and working people living in the area. Instead, as projects like the Quai des Eclusiers drive up property taxes and rents in the area, poor and working people are being systematically displaced, made homeless by economic evictions, and kept out of the area by high rents. In the context of a Montreal-wide housing crisis, the burrough councillors' complicity in advancing a process of gentrification that will push people out of their homes and into shelters or the street can only be understood as murderous.

No more condos in our neighborhoods!
